A mid-west Veterans Administration Hospital required Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity internally and between three hospital buildings. The closest cell tower was approximately three miles away. Each building had to be designed to have interoperability but had to be able to operate independently in the case of a building losing its services because of weather conditions or other conditions. The buildings, because of its unique construction, had tunnels had many brown and black locations throughout the campus. For visitors, patients and first responders’ safety, a robust system design was required.

VA Minimal Requirements:

 Design PS DAS System

 100% cellular coverage

 Install rooftop donor antennas

 Provide PE stamp drawings for permitting

 Fire alarm detail for input to PE

 AC surge protection

 Install Fiber, Coax, Connectors, antenna, bi-directional amplifier, battery backup (assuming AHJ will accept coax/conduit)

 Pull donor cable

 Commission and configure system

 Provide Post Turn up Signal levels

 Install Alarm J-box with the 7 required dry contacts labeled for Alarm company to tap

 Trigger alarms for Alarm company and AHJ to verify

 Work with AHJ to get system turned up (1 day of time max)

Outcome

The VA was exceptionally pleased with the quality of work, communications, daily reporting, professionalism and efficiency of NTC.
